1. Can I sell anything and everything at The Virginia Bazaar?

The Virginia Bazaar's goal is to provide a family-friendly environment. We prohibit the sale of firearms and ammunition, pornography, drug paraphernalia, counterfeit or "knock off" items, flammable or explosive items, or weapons of any kind. Food must be prepackaged, approved by the Virginia Department of Health and/or the Virginia Department of Agriculture, and The Virginia Bazaar. Always ask management about any items that might be considered objectionable.

2. Do I have to reserve an indoor vendor space before I come in?

Advance reservations are impossible as we do not hold vendors to long-term contracts. Spaces are available on a first come, first served basis every week.

3. What should I bring with me when renting indoor space? What is the rental procedure?

You should bring your merchandise, all tables, displays and shelving, your Caroline County business license, your driver's license, your Virginia Sales Tax ID number, your first week's rent, and at least 4 padlocks (all keyed the same) when renting indoor space. Come to The Virginia Bazaar office and pick up your floor plan map. Walk around the market and write down a few numbers for vacant spaces that you like. After selecting a space, a market representative will make copies of your licenses, have you sign a vendor agreement, and accept your rent payment. You may now start setting up your space. Once your space is set up, you can drop your space's shade and lock it down with your padlocks.

4. Are outdoor spaces assigned or may I pick which space to set up in?

Outdoor spaces are assigned on Saturday and Sunday mornings at the Vendor Registration building outside the northeastern corner of our market. Management will ask you to fill out rental paperwork, then assign you a space that maximizes traffic for the entire outdoor market and avoids conflicts with other vendors. Gates open at 7:00 am on weekends for vendor set up.

5. Do I have to empty my space after every weekend?

Vendors renting space for successive weeks may lock down their space and leave their items over the course of the week. Your rent covers your space rental until Sunday of the current week. For example, if you rent your space for the first two weekends of the month, you may keep your items in your space from the Saturday of the first weekend until the Sunday of the second weekend.

6. When can I restock my space during the week?

Vendors have access to their spaces on Thursdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Fridays from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Gates open for vendors at 7:00 am on both Saturday and Sunday. This allows you 2 hours each weekend day morning to restock before the market opens at 9:00 am.

7. Are tables provided? Do you rent tables?

Tables, shelving, and other furniture are not provided for indoor spaces. Every outdoor space is equipped with one 6 ft. table. We do not rent tables at this time.

8. Do I have to stay open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm every day I set up?

Yes. This is important to shoppers and vendors alike. Shoppers expect to see all of The Virginia Bazaar's indoor shops open during market hours. Indoor shops that open late and close early negatively affect shopper traffic and hurt neighboring vendors. We do understand that emergencies occur. In such a case, let management know. Outdoor vendors must be set up by 9:00 am, but may leave prior to 5:00 pm.

9. As an outdoor vendor, what happens if it rains, snows, etc.?

Outdoor vendors assume the risk for inclement weather. If you would like to continue to sell on an inclement weather day, space is typically available for rent in our indoor market.

10. What kind of shopper traffic should I expect?

The Virginia Bazaar attracts 350,000+ visitors per year.

11. How much does it cost to set up at your market?

The typical indoor space is 10 ft. x 12 ft. and costs $60/weekend. The typical outdoor space is 10 ft. x 30 ft. and costs $15/day. Visit Space Rental Rates for more details.

12. Is there a place I can eat while selling at The Virginia Bazaar?

Our market's food court is located in the center of our market and offers great food at reasonable prices.

13. Do I need a business license to sell at The Virginia Bazaar?

Yes. Caroline County requires all Virginia Bazaar vendors to have a license. Applications for licenses can be obtained at The Virginia Bazaar office or at the Caroline County Commissioner of Revenue's office in Bowling Green, Virginia. Any questions should be directed to the Commissioner's office at (804) 633-1086.

14. Am I required to collect Virginia sales tax?

Yes. The State of Virginia requires the collection of sales tax on all items sold except those exempt by law. Applications are provided at The Virginia Bazaar office. Any questions should be directed to the Virginia Department of Taxation (Spotsylvania office) (540) 972-3930.

15. How can I get announcements about my shop onto the market's P. A. system?

Announcement requests can be made at the information kiosk located at the center of the market in front of the food court. Messages must be written legibly and limited to 20 words or less. The fee for this service is $3, due upon announcement request.

16. Will I have access to an electrical outlet while setting up at The Virginia Bazaar?

All indoor booths are equipped with electrical outlets. There is no fee for normal usage. Indoor table spaces do not have electrical outlets. Some outside spaces have electrical access. Please talk to management if you need electricity as an outdoor vendor.

17. Can your venue be used for my organization's special events?

18. Do you have on site camping? Do you allow overnight stays?

The Virginia Bazaar is not equipped for on site camping and does not allow overnight stays. However, there are many local accommodations that can fulfill your needs. Please visit the Caroline County Chamber of Commerce for more details.
